I came across Atmamun’s author, Kapil Gupta, around 2018, when I was feeling low. I found his profile on Twitter and then explored his blog and books.
Atmamun is nothing like other books; if you’re not mature enough, you’ll probably hate it because the author doesn’t offer the prescriptions or life hacks that are common in self-help books.

Atmamun Book will expose the ulterior motive of your mind; it’ll make you realize you’re living a false, self-manufactured life.
Before coming across the Atmamun, I had read a lot of self-help books such as The Secret, The Law of Attraction, Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life, etc.
All these books preached about how positive thoughts can change your life, but according to Kapil Gupta, there’s no difference between positive and negative thoughts. He says you’ll spend your whole life in an endless cycle trying to convert negative thoughts into positive ones.
My own experience tells me that he’s right; I’ve fought negative thoughts for years, only for the mind to come back with overwhelming power.
There’s a chapter in the book called “Mindfulness Binds. MindLESSness Liberates”. As per the author, mindfulness is impractical. This might piss off a lot of spiritual gurus, and many might consider him rude, but he argues that mindfulness requires persistent effort, and the mind will eventually win because it’s been doing this for millennia.
The Mind Cannot Be Calmed Or Tamed. It Can Only Be Transcended! ~ Kapil Gupta
The author says the mind can only be transcended through understanding, and not through activities like mindfulness or meditation.
In another chapter, Kapil Gupta writes about how No-Mind is the state of living enlightenment. I remember him mentioning on Twitter that the movie ” The Last Samurai” is said to be closer to the truth. And rightly so; there’s a Japanese sword-fighting scene where No-Mind is applied.
The author also emphasises that success is a product of innocence or knowing. People who are naturally good at their fields do so because they can’t imagine doing anything else with their life. He also highlights how people use hard work as a scapegoat when they won’t make it.
Kapil Gupta also points out that a wealthy man has luxury and time to turn inward. The qualities that allowed a person to succeed in his craft will also help him understand the ultimate truth of life.
Final Verdict
The book Atmamun is not for everyone; I think you need a certain level of maturity and sincerity to grasp its truths. You might have to re-read to understand the true meaning of its words.
Entrepreneurs, athletes, and artists will likely connect with this book the most; I, for instance, stopped worrying about moral dilemmas while dealing with people, or stressing about people not understanding me, or trying to suppress negative thoughts.
I highly recommend this book.
